Artist's Statement
My work is motivated by an understanding that primal and intuitive knowing inevitably hold greater meaning than the dictates of society and culture.

I explore the interconnection between vulnerability and strength, precariousness and certitude, and how that impacts physical form. I am interested in external representation versus essence of being, and the way texture, proportions, surface, and color alter appearance. Camouflage as a means of survival, tribal body painting as ritualistic expression, and land mass altered by erosion inspire me.

Each piece begins from an image that appears in my mind, which I translate into a wax model or drawing. I work over an armature using white, fiberglass reinforced concrete or industrial plaster; these materials are strong and take color well. I relate to my pieces as having an almost human prescence, giving shape to their underlying reason for existence.
